First round at the powder coater's

Here's an example of how the sculpture has progressed.  Coming out of the powder coat kiln, the first application of color is done.  I then paint (with my special stuff) a layer of hand painting.  It's ready for a second fire.  More images and details on the "Helix Fabric" page!

Helix Fabric... the series is starting!

The “Helix” is inspired by an age-old sewing technique to create a skirt waistband.  By off-setting and sewing the short ends of a long strip of fabric, the waistband is created by trimming the strap from the circular off-set.  Now, I’ve done it metal.

Take a look at the "Helix Fabric" page for more images and progress photos.

FIRST PLACE!

Lucky girl, yes-sir-ree!

"Aspens and Moon" was awarded FIRST PLACE by the Art in Public Places committee for the 2012-2013 exhibit of Art on Havana 2C.  There was a handsome check included as part of the award!

This collection of "Aspens and Moon" is specifically the "Spring, Fall, Winter" series.  Similar works are located at the City of Lakewood's Cultural Art Center, the City of Greeley and the City of Grand Junction.  This collection, all created with one-of-kind works throughout the series has been so popular, I have decided to close the series for the time being until a creative turn into the series.

The collection will be on display until September 2013 and is for sale.  Other works as part of the collection are available at Artyard Contemporary Sculpture and Evergreen Fine Art.

For more information, visit www.auroragov.org/publicart or call 303.739.6747.

Mason City, Iowa

"Matriarchal Moon Creature" hangs in the downtown crossroads of Mason City, Iowa.  She's part of a new program "River City Sculptures on Parade".  It's also part of a network program managed by Jim Clark's "Sioux Falls Art Walk".

On September 7th, I met wonderful and enthusiastic installation crew.  The installation went up smoothly.  At first, MMC was smirking at me, resisting to turn.  I sat in the park waiting for her to greet me as she can be moody.  This morning, Brandi sent word she's spinning like a top.

MMC will be located in Mason City until Spring of 2014.  You'll have a chance to see her in all seasons!

Thank you to all that helped and coordinated the installation.  I especially enjoyed meeting the other sculptors, Felix, Jacque, Deb and Mendez from Indiana.

Yello SCENE!

Hey!  There's my sculpture, Farmer's Moon.

This was published by Yellow Scene out of Boulder.  It's a hip magazine with a good editorial about the best place to live... if you're an artist.

New Project Coming to the studio, ArtSign in Jackson Hole, WY!

The concept is to create a flying horse wire figure.  Wings of sewn fabric will be constructed from horses I have known.   The sculpture will capture the spirit of the horse, the West, and the heart and soul of the "original" cowboy, Carl Baker.

You'll see a new page be built and images of the project as the design and construction begins.

My arms are sore

Throwing a large grinder around with a 9"-wheel can sure make a girl get tired... and with time, some serious deltoids and biceps.  The Flying Trees have been installed at Loomiller Park. It took two boom trucks, one on each end, to move the parts and assemble them in their permanent location.

The ribbon cutting ceremony is Tues., June 12 at 6:00pm.
Located at 11th & Summer Street in Longmont, CO.

Hey!  There's going to be a world class Frisbee dude there to offer free lessons.  I'm always worth some good entertainment as well.

Take a look at the page, there's more images!

Julius' sculpture won't take a boom truck, but it's going to move onto into powder coating tomorrow.  The process is going to break some ground and I'm looking forward to playing with the process.

Celebrating how Pizza Hut is art? Huh? When my sculptures got launched for the first time on a national commercial, I always dreamed it would be for something good to eat or wear.

It's in the first 10 seconds of the video.

Loomiller's "Flying Trees'

Progress is being made. All the structural drawings outlining the design for the sculpture installation have submitted for the public engineer's review. The soil assessment report will be completed this week.

Once the recommendations have been made final... acquisition of materials will begin. That's a process to take at least two weeks. The components include specialty products, which will have to be ordered.

Check out the page for Loomiller Park for more information and detailed drawings. More photos to come!!

Installation Date is Set

This January 17, 18 & 20, the installation of "Under the Swimming Pool" will begin. The details of the installation are still being ironed-out. There will be a six-man crew and a drywall lift, and of course, a few ladders.

The plan is to install the frame work and start setting the glass and figurative elements. At first the creative elements will be roughed-in. The second and third day will be move, tweek and adjust the individual pieces.

For more information see the page: Aurora's Beck Recreation Center
